Duke rolls past Tennessee in preseason scrimmage

Duke rolled over Tennessee in a preseason scrimmage, according to Yahoo Sports, handing the Volunteers a heavy defeat in their buildup to the new season. The result adds to a difficult exhibition stretch for Rick Barnes' team, which found itself well beaten by the Blue Devils.

The available summary offers no score, statistics or description of individual performances, so the particulars of the scrimmage cannot be detailed here. The characterization in the report is nonetheless unambiguous: this was a comfortable, one-sided win for Duke rather than a narrow preseason result.

For Tennessee, the takeaway is about the gap rather than the result itself. Preseason games are meant to expose weaknesses before they cost anything, and the Vols now have a clear measure of how much ground they need to make up before the games count.
