New CBS Sports 2027 mock draft puts a tight end in the top 10 and a Tennessee lineman in round one

With Week 9 of the college football season and Week 8 of the NFL season arriving, CBS Sports has released a new mock for the 2027 NFL Draft, and the first round leans slightly toward offense. The projection has 17 offensive players taken in the opening round against 15 defenders, with five quarterbacks selected, including three in the top ten.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith leads the mock, going first overall to the Los Angeles Chargers. Smith has 52 catches for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, and 215 receptions for 3,542 yards and 41 total touchdowns over his three-year career. The Tennessee Titans follow at No. 2 by taking Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore, described as the top cornerback in the class and the first defensive player off the board. Moore was an All-American in 2025, when he recorded five interceptions and seven pass breakups.

The biggest surprise comes at No. 9, where Tampa Bay is projected to take LSU tight end Trey'Dez Green. Green is viewed as the top tight end in the class and a possible first-rounder, but this projection makes him only the second tight end in the last five drafts to go in the top ten. He has played in just four games this season, catching 19 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns, with 65 receptions for 806 yards and 13 touchdowns in his LSU career.

For Tennessee, the local name in the round is defensive lineman Xavier Gilliam, projected at No. 20 to the Dallas Cowboys with a pick coming via Green Bay. That placement puts a Vol in the first round of this early look at 2027. The mock also notes that the upcoming NFL trade deadline could change which teams ultimately hold these picks by April, so the order remains fluid as the season continues.
