Coaches Poll after Week 9: Miami stays at No. 1, Ohio State tumbles to No. 10

Another loss by a top-five team reshaped the USA Today Coaches Poll after Week 9, with Ohio State's defeat on the road at USC sending the Buckeyes down eight places to No. 10 as the calendar turned to November. Miami kept the No. 1 spot it had held since after Week 7, holding on after a 38-35 win at North Carolina on Saturday, and now heads into a much bigger test at Notre Dame.

Georgia climbed one place to No. 2 after beating Florida for a sixth straight time, using a strong second quarter to take control of the rivalry game. Indiana rose to No. 3 after surviving a close game against Minnesota at home, Utah moved to No. 4 after winning at Cincinnati to stay undefeated, and UCLA climbed to No. 5 after cruising past Nevada to remain unbeaten. Notre Dame stayed at No. 6 after rallying in the second half to beat Navy 35-13.

For Tennessee followers, the most relevant name near the top is Kentucky. The Wildcats rose one spot to No. 7 during their bye week, bringing a 7-1 record and a six-game winning streak into this Saturday's trip to Neyland Stadium to face the Volunteers. Alabama is No. 9 after ending a two-game skid against Texas A&M, Texas held at No. 11 after beating Mississippi State 31-3, and Ole Miss stayed at No. 12 after a 45-15 win over Auburn.

Ohio State's fall was the poll's biggest story. Playing without quarterback Julian Sayin, who is out indefinitely with an arm injury, the Buckeyes lost for the second time this season with Luke Fahey starting in his place. They return home to face Oregon this week, while elsewhere Miami's visit to Notre Dame, Georgia's trip to Ole Miss, and the BYU-Utah rivalry game give the next poll plenty of chances to change again.
