Guard Donovan Haslam Leaves South Carolina Game in First Half and Will Not Return

Tennessee lost another starting guard during its game at South Carolina on Saturday in Columbia, as Donovan Haslam suffered an upper-body injury in the first half and was ruled out for the rest of the contest, according to the Vol Network.

Sham Umarov stepped in at right guard in Haslam's place. The appearance was Umarov's first since he himself left the Texas game on Sept. 26 with an injury, putting Tennessee in the position of turning to a player just back from an absence to fill a hole created by a new one.

Haslam, a transfer from West Virginia, had become a major part of the Volunteers' running game since moving into the lineup at right guard, earning a reputation as a powerful run blocker. His loss tests a position group that was already thin before Saturday began.

The Volunteers were already playing without Wendell Moe Jr., who started the first four games of the season at left guard before suffering a season-ending lower-body injury in the first quarter against Texas on Sept. 26. Nic Moore has started at left guard for the past four games in Moe's absence, and Tennessee will now have to manage the rest of the South Carolina game — and whatever comes next — with both of its original starting guards sidelined.
