Larry Seivers Built His Tennessee Stardom on Simply Catching the Ball

A Knoxville News Sentinel look back at Larry Seivers traces how he became a star for the Vols, and the explanation offered is strikingly simple. Asked, in effect, how he did it, the answer comes down to catching the ball when it came his way.

That plain description is the heart of the story. Seivers is remembered not for a complicated formula or a flashy account of his rise, but for doing the most basic part of the job reliably enough that it carried him to stardom at Tennessee.

For Tennessee fans, the piece is a reminder that a lasting reputation can rest on a simple idea. In Seivers' case, the story presents his success as the product of that one repeated act, summed up in his own understated terms.
