Tennessee Hosts No. 8 Kentucky Saturday Night in Dark Mode Game at Neyland
Tennessee returns from its bye week Saturday night to host Kentucky at Neyland Stadium, with kickoff set for 6:15 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. The matchup pairs No. 16 Tennessee, at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, against No. 8 Kentucky, which arrives at 7-1 and 5-1 in conference play after both teams were off last Saturday.
The Volunteers will wear their all-black Dark Mode alternate uniforms for the game, a look built around black helmets, jerseys and pants accented in orange, including the helmet stripe, Power T, jersey numbers and pants stripes. Tennessee has used the same look in its last two home meetings with Kentucky, winning 28-18 in 2024 and 44-6 in 2022. On Sunday, the Vols opened as a 5.5-point favorite, with the total set at 45.5.
Tennessee is coming off a 27-24 loss at South Carolina in its most recent game, while Kentucky beat Vanderbilt in its last outing. The Wildcats are off to their strong start under first-year head coach Will Stein, the former Oregon offensive coordinator hired to succeed Mark Stoops. Stein, a 37-year-old Louisville native, played quarterback at Louisville from 2008 to 2012 before working his way up through stops at Louisville, Texas, Lake Travis High School in Texas and UTSA.
The game is the latest chapter in Tennessee's most-played rivalry, with 121 meetings dating back to 1893. The Vols lead the series 85-26-9, have won five in a row against Kentucky and have taken 12 of the last 14 meetings. After Saturday, Tennessee has three regular-season games left: a trip to Texas A&M on Nov. 14, a home game against LSU on Nov. 21 and the finale at Vanderbilt on Nov. 28.
