Tennessee at Texas A&M gets afternoon kickoff window on ESPN or SEC Network
Tennessee's trip to Texas A&M next Saturday will start in the afternoon, the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday as part of its Week 11 television plans. The game at Kyle Field in College Station does not yet have a precise start time, but it will begin between 3 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Eastern Time and will air on either ESPN or SEC Network.
The matchup had been placed in the league's flex window, which left open two broad possibilities: an afternoon start between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Eastern, or an evening start between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern. Monday's update narrowed that range to the afternoon. Texas A&M plans to stage the game as Operation Blackout, with the Aggies wearing all-black alternate uniforms.
Before Tennessee can turn fully to College Station, it has a major home test. The No. 16 Volunteers, 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC, host No. 8 Kentucky on Saturday at Neyland Stadium in the annual Dark Mode game, set for 6:15 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. Texas A&M, meanwhile, is 4-4 overall and 1-4 in league play and plays at South Carolina on Saturday. The Aggies began the year ranked No. 8 in the preseason Associated Press poll but fell out of the rankings within a month after a 2-2 start, and they have lost four of their last six, beating The Citadel and Arkansas while losing to Kentucky, LSU, Missouri and Alabama.
The meeting continues a brief but varied series that Tennessee leads 3-2 and that dates to 1957. The Volunteers won the most recent game 20-13 at Neyland Stadium in November 2023, won the first meeting 3-0 in the 1957 Gator Bowl, and won 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day 2005. Texas A&M won 34-13 in Knoxville in December 2020 and won Tennessee's only previous trip to Kyle Field, 45-38 in overtime in October 2016. The schools are also scheduled to meet again in Knoxville in 2028, when locations flip under the SEC's new nine-game schedule format.
