Barnes Notes Improvement From Tennessee but Says Team Still Lacks an Edge

Rick Barnes is seeing improvement from Tennessee, according to a Sports Illustrated report, but the head coach believes his team is still missing an edge. The assessment pairs encouragement about the progress being made with a clear sense that more is needed.

That distinction matters for Tennessee as Barnes continues to evaluate where the group stands. Progress suggests the foundation is moving in the right direction, while the missing edge points to the intensity and sharpness he still wants to see on a more consistent basis.

For Tennessee, the next step is turning that progress into a more complete, hard-edged approach. Barnes' message leaves little ambiguity: the team is getting better, but it has not yet reached the standard he is looking for.
