South Carolina Fans Rush the Field After Walk-Off Win Over No. 11 Tennessee

South Carolina fans poured onto the field at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday after the unranked Gamecocks beat No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 on a walk-off field goal. Television cameras showed the stands emptying almost immediately as the celebration moved down to the field, capping a dramatic finish to the conference matchup.

The celebration comes with a price. Rushing the field will cost South Carolina a $500,000 fine, though the report noted that Gamecock fans were unlikely to mind, given how the day unfolded and what the win meant in an up-and-down season for Shane Beamer's team.

The game itself swung back and forth for 60 minutes. South Carolina scored on its first two possessions to lead 14-0, only for Tennessee to answer with 21 points in the second quarter and take a 21-17 lead into halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, and South Carolina finally broke through again late, covering 61 yards in six plays to tie the game with under two minutes remaining.

Tennessee's final possession then ended with a fumble, which set up South Carolina's game-winning field goal and triggered the field storming that followed. For the Gamecocks, it was a signature win over a ranked rival. For Tennessee, it was a lead, and then a game, that slipped away in the closing moments.
