South Carolina lists four players out in first availability report before Tennessee game

South Carolina released its initial SEC availability report on Wednesday night ahead of Saturday's game against Tennessee, and the Gamecocks will be short-handed in several spots. Offensive lineman Carter Miller was listed as questionable and defensive back Quay'Sheed Scott as doubtful, while four players were ruled out entirely: wide receiver Jayden Sellers, linebacker Kobby Sakyi-Prah, and offensive linemen Josiah Thompson and Seth Smith.

The report is the first required update of the week under the conference system in place since the 2024-25 athletics season. For a Saturday game, schools issue the initial report on Wednesday, update it once a day on Thursday and Friday, and then provide a final game-day update no later than 90 minutes before kickoff, when players are listed only as available, a game-time decision, or out.

Earlier this week, South Carolina coach Shane Beamer spoke with considerable respect for the challenge Tennessee brings. He praised Josh Heupel's team for running the ball well and playing physically on both sides, pointing to the defense in particular and to last week's Alabama game as an example of how well the Vols have played at all three levels this season.

Beamer also noted his long history against Tennessee defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, recalling matchups from his time as an assistant at Virginia Tech, when Knowles was at Duke, and from his years at Oklahoma, when Knowles was at Oklahoma State. For Tennessee, the absences on South Carolina's offensive line and in its secondary are the practical takeaway from Wednesday's list, though the Gamecocks' picture could still change in the Thursday and Friday updates before Saturday.
