South Carolina mocks Tennessee with wristband post after Saturday victory

South Carolina leaned into an old Tennessee grievance after beating the Volunteers on Saturday night. The Gamecocks' social media team posted a graphic of a player wearing a wristband that read "Cocks win," a direct callback to the 2022 meeting between the teams.

In that 2022 game, South Carolina upset a Tennessee team aiming for the College Football Playoff 63-38. Tennessee fans noted that South Carolina wore wristbands for the first time that season, which fueled theories that the Gamecocks may have had Tennessee's signals.

Before Saturday's game, South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White said his unit would not wear wristbands this week, calling that a different era. He said the idea in 2022 actually came from player Cam Smith, after the scout team had used wristbands against a fast-moving offense in practice, and that he put six plays on them.

Saturday was the first Tennessee game in Columbia since 2022 because of the SEC's new scheduling model, and Tennessee had won the intervening meeting in Knoxville in 2023. By winning again at home, South Carolina made it two straight over the Vols in Columbia and chose to celebrate by reviving the wristband story.
