DeSean Bishop Appears in Heisman Odds, but as a Long Shot
Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop has worked his way into the Heisman Trophy conversation enough to be listed in the odds, according to Sports Illustrated, but his position in those odds is not flattering. Being named at all puts Bishop on the national board, yet the report makes clear he sits well back from the leading contenders rather than among the favorites.
That kind of listing is still a measure of how Bishop's play for the Volunteers has registered beyond Knoxville. Running backs face a steep climb in modern Heisman voting, which has tended to center on quarterbacks, so a back has to produce an outsized season simply to stay in the picture.
For Tennessee, the takeaway is modest but real: Bishop is on the radar, even if the odds say he has a long way to go. A string of big performances would be needed to change his standing, and until then his presence in the odds is more a nod to his production than a sign of a serious candidacy.
