Tennessee Opens as 6.5-Point Favorite Over Kentucky at Neyland Despite Wildcats' Surge
Tennessee will return from its bye week as a solid home favorite, with Circa Sports opening the Volunteers as a 6.5-point favorite over Kentucky for their Week 10 meeting in Knoxville. The early total for Saturday's game was set at 51.5 points, with kickoff scheduled for 6:15 p.m. ET on ESPN at Neyland Stadium.
The line comes even though the two teams arrive in very different form. No. 16 Tennessee is 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC after a damaging loss at South Carolina on Oct. 24, a Week 8 collapse that left the Volunteers with two weeks to sit with the result during the bye. No. 8 Kentucky, by contrast, is 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC after winning six straight games, putting the Wildcats in unfamiliar territory in Will Stein's first season in Lexington.
For Tennessee, the stakes extend well beyond the rivalry. Its College Football Playoff hopes are described as hanging in the balance, making a rebound at home close to essential after the South Carolina defeat. Kentucky has its own chance to make a statement, both by ending a recent run of losses in the series and by proving the opening line wrong on the road.
The matchup is one of the SEC's oldest rivalries, dating back to 1893, when Kentucky won the first meeting 56-0. Tennessee has dominated since then, holding an 85-26-9 advantage in the all-time series and winning the past five meetings with the Wildcats.
