Tennessee favored by 5.5 over Kentucky for Saturday night Dark Mode game at Neyland

Tennessee opened on Sunday as a 5.5-point home favorite over Kentucky for Saturday night's Dark Mode game at Neyland Stadium, with the total set at 45.5 according to numbers from the Polymarket app. Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. Eastern, and the game will be televised by ESPN. Both teams were off on Saturday, giving each a break before a matchup with real weight in the Southeastern Conference race.

The records show why the line is tight despite Tennessee being at home. The Volunteers are 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC and are coming off a 27-24 loss at South Carolina, while Kentucky is 7-1 and, according to the report, beat Vanderbilt to move into first place in the SEC standings while running its winning streak to six games. Tennessee is 4-4 against the spread this season, and the under has hit in six of its eight games. Kentucky has been far more reliable for bettors at 7-1 against the spread, with the 45-17 loss to Alabama on September 12 the only game in which the Wildcats failed to cover.

Kentucky's fast start has come under first-year head coach Will Stein, the former Oregon offensive coordinator hired to replace Mark Stoops. The 37-year-old Louisville native played quarterback at Louisville and previously served as offensive coordinator at UTSA before his time at Oregon. His Wildcats now face one of the program's oldest tests, a series Tennessee leads 85-26-9 across 121 meetings dating back to 1893, the most-played series in Volunteers history.

Tennessee has won five straight against Kentucky and 12 of the last 14 since the Wildcats won in Lexington in 2011. After Saturday, the Volunteers have only three regular-season games left, at Texas A&M on November 14, at home against LSU on November 21 and at Vanderbilt on November 28, which makes protecting home field against a Kentucky team ahead of them in the standings especially important.
