Video Shows Tennessee Linebacker Swinging at South Carolina Player After Field Storming

South Carolina's last-second win over No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday ended with thousands of home fans pouring onto the field at Williams-Brice Stadium, and in the middle of that rush a Tennessee player was caught on video appearing to lash out at a Gamecocks player. The clip, shared on social media, appears to show senior linebacker Jeremiah Telander moving toward South Carolina defensive back Triston Lewis and throwing a right-handed swing in his direction.

The swing did not land. Telander then turned and walked away from the scene, while Lewis raised his hands, looked around, and resumed celebrating before bouncing away from the camera. No further exchange between the two players was shown, but the brief moment stood out precisely because it unfolded inside a crowded field storm, where players from both sides were surrounded by fans who had just spilled out of the stands.

That kind of scene is central to why the Southeastern Conference restricts access to the playing area to athletes, coaches, officials, support staff and properly credentialed personnel. The league's policy bars spectators from entering the competition area before, during or after a game, in the interest of safety for everyone involved. A violation carries a $500,000 fine, and for a conference game that money is paid to the opposing school.

South Carolina is therefore expected to face that fine for Saturday's storming, which followed Malik Orsan's walk-off 48-yard field goal that sealed a back-and-forth upset of the Volunteers. If assessed, it would be the league's third such fine this season, after similar incidents following Kentucky's overtime victory over LSU and Tennessee's upset of Alabama. For Tennessee, the loss itself was damaging enough, and the video adds an unwanted postscript to a difficult night in Columbia.
