Video Shows Tennessee Linebacker Swinging Amid South Carolina Field Storm After Upset Loss

South Carolina's last-second upset of No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday ended with fans pouring onto the field at Williams-Brice Stadium, and video from the celebration appears to show a Volunteers player taking a swing in the middle of the crowd. The clip, posted to social media, seems to capture senior linebacker Jeremiah Telander moving toward South Carolina defensive back Triston Lewis and throwing a right-handed swing that did not connect.

Telander turned and walked away after the miss, while Lewis raised his hands, looked around, and then ran off celebrating with the home crowd. The moment came seconds after the Gamecocks finished off the win on a walk-off 48-yard field goal by Malik Orsan, capping a back-and-forth game that sent South Carolina fans onto the field en masse to celebrate with their team.

The scene is exactly the kind of situation the SEC's access policy is meant to prevent. The league bars spectators from entering the competition area before, during, or after a game, limiting the field to players, coaches, officials, support staff, and properly credentialed personnel for the safety of everyone involved.

South Carolina is now likely facing a $500,000 fine for the storming. Under league rules, that amount applies to any violation of the access policy, and for a conference game the money is paid to the opposing school — in this case, Tennessee. It would reportedly be the third such fine this season, following Kentucky's overtime win over LSU and Tennessee's own upset of Alabama.

For Tennessee, the loss itself is the bigger blow, but the video adds an unwanted postgame storyline to a dramatic defeat. There was no indication in the report of any contact being made or of further discipline, only a brief, heated exchange caught on camera as the field filled around both teams.
