Tennessee Must Win Out for Playoff Push, and Still Needs Help in Week 9

Tennessee's path to the College Football Playoff is straightforward but unforgiving heading into Week 9, according to a rooting guide from A to Z Sports. The Volunteers need to win out, a requirement that leaves them no margin for error if they want to stay in the playoff picture.

Winning alone, however, may not be enough. The guide notes that Tennessee could also use some help, meaning results beyond the Volunteers' own games could affect whether a perfect finish actually delivers a playoff berth.

That combination shapes how Tennessee fans will watch Week 9. The Volunteers' own result comes first, but the wider playoff race matters too, with help from other outcomes potentially deciding how much a win-out finish is worth.
