Tennessee's Playoff Path in Week 9: Win Out, and Hope for Help Elsewhere

Tennessee's route to the College Football Playoff is framed simply heading into Week 9. The Volunteers need to win out, taking care of the part of the race that is directly in their own hands the rest of the way.

At the same time, winning alone may not be the whole story. The Volunteers could also use some help elsewhere, which is why a Week 9 rooting guide matters for Tennessee fans following results beyond the Volunteers' own game.

That combination leaves little margin for error. Tennessee has to handle its remaining schedule without a stumble, while also watching other outcomes that could improve its position in the playoff picture.
