Tennessee's Carter Named a Semifinalist for the Whitten Honor

Tennessee football's Carter has been named a semifinalist for the Whitten honor, according to a Yahoo Sports report on the Volunteers. The recognition places a Tennessee player in the national award conversation as the season moves through its middle stretch.

Semifinalist lists narrow a wider field of candidates down to a smaller group still in contention, so Carter's inclusion means his work for Tennessee has drawn notice beyond the program. No further finalists or winners were identified in the material available for this report.

For Tennessee, having a player advance this far in an award process is a positive marker for the program during the season. Carter will remain in the running as the field is trimmed further, with the next steps in the selection process still to come.
