Mike Matthews could be central to Tennessee's plan against South Carolina's defense

Tennessee wide receiver Mike Matthews has been identified as a player who could be key to unlocking South Carolina's defense in the Volunteers' game against the Gamecocks.

That puts a spotlight on Tennessee's passing attack and on how Matthews is used against South Carolina. If he can create openings, it would help the Vols move the ball against a defense they need to loosen up.

For Tennessee, production from Matthews would matter beyond one matchup. A receiver who can stretch or stress a defense changes how opponents have to play the rest of the offense, and this game offers him a chance to play that role.
