Ty Weathersby and Cooper Ranvier pick up SEC weekly honors from the Alabama win
Two of the players who carried Tennessee's 26-10 win over Alabama picked up conference hardware for it. On Monday, the SEC recognized defensive lineman Ty Weathersby and kicker Cooper Ranvier as players of the week at their positions, with Weathersby taking the lineman honor.
Weathersby spent the afternoon in Alabama's backfield. He finished with four tackles, two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss, and he recovered a first-quarter fumble by quarterback Keelon Russell — forced on a sack by Jeremiah Telander — rumbling 20 yards before the return was called back because his knee had been down. The takeaway still led to points.
Those points belonged to Ranvier, who effectively was Tennessee's offense before halftime. He hit field goals of 29, 33 and 41 yards in the first quarter and added a 34-yarder in the second, then converted both extra points. His 12 points from field goals alone outscored Alabama's entire team on the day.
The honors underline where the win was built: a defense that smothered the Tide and a kicker who never missed. Telander, with two sacks and a fourth-down stop, and others such as Dejuan Lane and DeSean Bishop had their own cases — which says plenty about the depth of Tennessee's performance.
